The role

Reporting to the Head of Financial Sales, the International Business Development Manager’s primary role is to grow the company’s client list and deliver revenue targets. Selling directly to banking clients, both established and emerging, or via channel partners, the sales process can be varied in complexity and length. It is important that the candidate can adapt their style and approach in line with the client’s requirements and can also build long term relationships across the industry to ensure that Thames Technology is the first port of call for all card enquiries.

Main purpose of the role

  • Establish Thames as go-to card supplier for metal payment cards to channel distribution partners across EMEA
  • Promote our full technical payments portfolio across both existing client base and to new leads
  • Self-generate leads and prospects to achieve new business revenue targets
  • Proactively respond to inbound enquiries, by scoping requirements and providing solution and cost proposals
  • Present products and services, prepare proposals, perform contract and pricing negotiation, close sale
  • Work closely with the Technical Account Manager to ensure projects and new sales run smoothly and Thames’s reputation for delivering a quality product, on time, is retained

Key responsibilities

  • Open doors and present our technical and metal card portfolio to potential channel distribution partners across EMEA
  • Identify and support opportunities to upsell technical and metal payment cards within existing customer base, including across our existing issuer/ processor channel partners
  • Identify new direct-to-client sales opportunities and strategise how best to win
  • Handover new contract sales to Technical Account Manager whilst remaining in touch with project through to completion to ensure a successful go-live
  • Escalate obstacles to sales to the Head of Financial Sales
  • Work with the Head of FS to write an annual Sales Plan, including goals, strategies, and actions
  • Forecast monthly new business and track against target and sales plan
  • Write and submit sales reports
  • Full tender responses – utilising internal support to ensure quality response and timescales are met
  • Participation in sales and marketing meetings
  • Keeping up to date with market/ industry trends and new products and feedback to company
  • Support the rest of the sales team where requested
  • Professionally representing the business, at external meetings, trade shows, conferences, and exhibitions, which may involve multiple overnight stays
  • Continually demonstrating, marketing, and promoting the most up-to-date improvements and developments of the Thames Technology ranges
  • Support Account Managers with commercial, performance and escalation issues, ensuring pricing matrices are provided and kept current and client communication is regular and of the highest quality
  • Control, research and develop all opportunities which will bring significant profit to the Company’s bottom line

Required skills

  • Experience and evidenced success of technical sales, preferably within financial sector
  • Ability to deliver cross cultural sales
  • Experienced in strategic sales planning 
  • Outstanding communication and relationship building skills
  • Excellent skills in selling, probing, and negotiating
  • Confident networker and socialiser 
  • Good team player
  • Natural Presenter
  • Motivated, energetic self-starter
  • Demonstrable experience with a complex and technical sale process
  • Problem solving and solution orientation
  • Quick learner; able to develop high levels of industry, product, and operational process knowledge

Preferred experience

  • B2B Sales/Business Development experience – circa 3 years – Essential
  • Working within Financial Card Manufacturing – circa 2 years – Highly Desirable
  • Working for a supplier of the Fintech and/or Banking Industry – circa 2 years – Highly Desirable
  • Previous experience in Strategic/Key Account Management or Partnership Management – circa 2 years - Desirable
