Offering two-factor authentication for contactless payments

Thames Technology is delighted to now be able to present its clients with a tried and tested pathway to offering biometric payment cards as a more secure and technically advanced method of card payments.

Accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic, more and more payment card users favour contactless payment methods to avoid potential touchpoints. Thames Technology’s new biometric payment cards offer the ideal solution for making secure contactless payments: With a built-in fingerprint sensor they provide the end user with the ability to authenticate every card transaction at the point of sale, and enable the quick, convenient, and more hygienic contactless method to be used across all transaction values.

This allows banks to provide an improved customer experience, day after day, ensuring their card becomes the card of choice for all payments.

Thames Technology’s established pilot programme enables the issuer and end client to set up a controlled trial alongside the scheme within just a few months from agreement. Our specially developed programme supports pilot schemes from conception (selecting the customer base, agreeing its timelines, identifying the scope of testing and decision factors) through to implementation and follow up questionnaires to ensure card providers are armed with the data to move to a successful launch.

Angela Davies, Head of Financial Sales, at Thames Technology, commented:
"The inclusion of on-the-card biometric authentication is a real step change for the payment card industry, which has been wrestling with the balance between the convenience and risk of fraud since contactless emerged over 10 years ago.

Thames Technology is extremely proud to be able to support its clients with their ambitions to provide more secure and convenient payment methods.  We see it as an essential offering, which will ensure that the Fintech sector continues to drive innovations within our industry”.
